Learning for Life
The ultimate goal of the Learning for Life model is to prepare students for a useful and successful life in society. At its core, the Learning for Life model is based on the conviction that in a safe, project-based environment, students are directly involved in their own learning process, effectively "creating or constructing their own learning." Within each of the interest areas, a full educational curriculum is implemented, but the learning model is significantly different than the typical public education model. Instead of "covering the material" in a traditional classroom setting, students are involved daily in hands-on activities that are selected by students and teachers, and that require the development of a wide range of skills and learning. The collaborative environment enables students to practice social and educational skills. This preparation is key to successful transition and community reintegration.
